Amphibious Experience 2018
Dave Forster’s pet project in aid of H4H at Phoenix House, Catterick, saw the club back in the Lakes District for two days.
Work and other commitments meant we could only manage to pop over for one day. We had a sunny drive over and arrived at the water sports’ centre before anyone else. The weather was stunning, more like the Bahamas than the Lakes.
Three amphibs were in action during the day, the DUKW and 2 stalwarts, one with a hi-ab and one without. It was amazing to see how high the one without the crane floated compared to the one without it.
Change to the running order was no road run this time. An added highlight was the Dragon Boat. I watched it being loaded with our members and it took 20 minutes which was because it is very narrow and has to be carefully set up before it can leave the dock.
All aboard, and as the drummer started his rhythm the rowers pulled away out into the lake. Very impressive they were too.
A big Thanks to the two Dave’s and to all those who took along vehicles it was a great effort from all concerned
